Remember the Race Of Champions at Mid Ohio’s Vintage Motorcycle Days in 2007?

Well, the concept is back, better than ever, and coming to a new and historical venue: Unadilla Sports Center and the MX Rewind event, June 1-3, 2012.

At this year’s AHRMA vintage national at Unadilla, the Legends and Heroes Tour will host the Team Cup Challenge. This is your chance to be “Full Factory” and actually race on a team led by your favorite legend for bragging rights to the MX Rewind L&H Team Cup!

The Team Cup Challenge legends will be led by "Bad Brad" Lackey and Danny LaPorte, America’s first world motocross champions. The list of champions is long and distinguished, and reads like a who’s-who of motocross history.

Joining Brad and Danny will be Gunnar Lindstrom (one of American motocross’s founding members), Barry Higgins, Gary Jones (250cc National Champion in 1972-1974 and winner of the 1972 Unadilla Trans-AMA), Mark “The Bomber” Barnett (1980-982 125cc National Champion and member of the 1983 winning U.S. MX and Trophy des Nations team), Tony DiStefano (1st in the 500cc class in 1975 and 1st in the 250cc class in 1976-1977), Donnie Hansen (member of the historic winning U.S. "B Team" at the 1981 MX and Trophy des Nations and 1982 250cc Champion), Mickey Kessler, Gary Semics, Marty Smith (1974 and 1975 125cc National Champion, 1977 500cc National Champion) and New York's own Jimmy "The Jammer" Weinert (1974 and 1975 500cc National Champion).

From the sport’s more recent eras we have Jeff Stanton (member of the winning U.S. MX des Nations teams in 1989,1990, and 1991, 250cc National Champion in 1989, 1990, and 1992, and winner of the Unadilla 250cc USGP in 1990,1991, and 1992) and Ron "The Dogger" Lechien, a member of the winning U.S. team at the 1985 and 1988 MX des Nations and 1985 125cc National Champion, as well as winner of the 1984 USGP at Unadilla

Here is how it’ll work: Each champion will be a team manager along with the four racers sponsoring each legend’s Team Cup Challenge participation. The team will race in their respective classes throughout the weekend. A track walk with the champ and his team will take place Friday afternoon, with the champs showing riders the fastest lines, talking team strategy, and maybe even coaching you on your podium victory speech! This will make for a fantastic photo op for team and group pictures.

On Friday night you’ll hang out with the champ and your team during the evening’s “team meeting”. On Saturday, each of the 4 racers on the champ’s team will race their respected class motos and repeat the same on Sunday. The Champs will ride in their own exhibition class on Saturday aboard a vintage machine and on Sunday on a post-vintage bike (one moto each day for the champs). Your team will supply the bikes for your champ, and you’ll get to pit for your champion, too.  Points will be tabulated based on your team members’ best 2 moto finishes each day plus the champ’s exhibition race. The champs will get Start Points for their participation for both days and this will be tabulated into the score. As an added twist we’ve added a handicap – the riders’ cumulative ages will count as part of the final score (the oldest team could win!).

The Legends and Heroes Team Cup Challenge entry fee is $500.00 per team member. Your money will be used to help subsidize the champ and their spouse’s travel and accommodation expenses for the weekend. In return, each team racer will get the following swag from our premier sponsors:

The swag will more than cover your contribution to get the champs to ‘Dilla, and you’ll get some cool stuff to clad your bod, put in your bike and hang on your wall! And one more thing…We will shoot the biggest team picture in moto history in your new JT gear as part of the L&H promotions poster you’ll get in the mail.
